“No one is next”: Is Sean O’Malley out for more than a year?

New Delhi: Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley lost his crown in UFC 306 at the Sphere, Las Vegas on September 15, Sunday. O’Malley lost the fight very comfortably as Merab Dvalishivili dominated the whole fight on the ground and also on the feet. O’Malley’s dream run has ended very drastically, he wanted to be the next Conor McGregor of the Bantamweight division but his second title defense broke him, and now his return to the octagon is unknown.

This was also the first defeat of O’Malley since UFC 252 against Marlon Vera via TKO. O’Malley has been unbeaten through his last seven fights but now his hard-earned streak also broke.

After the loss, O’Malley opened up and hinted that he would be out for a minimum of 9 to 12 months for his mental health. “It’s going to feel good to take a legit break to get fully healthy,” It’s going to be nice to take a legit, full-on break without something next. Right after the Aljo fight, I knew I had the Chito fight. Right after the Chito fight, I had the Merab fight. Now after this fight, I don’t have anything. Nothing’s scheduled, no one’s next…” O’Malley said in an interview.

It is not confirmed what O’Malley is referring to his injury but he needed some break from MMA to get back on his mental health. He also fought with Aljamain Sterling with a rib injury and won the fight via TKO.

“I need to get healthy, and that’s it, I’m going to actually heal up from injuries and then take my time, and come back,” O’Malley added.

Merab Dvalishvili’s next opponent for title

After winning the title at UFC 306, now next opponent for Dvalishvili will be Umar Nurmagomedov who is undefeated in his MMA career. He is coming with a dominant win over Cory Sandhagen and there is no one ahead of him in the title contention. Dvalishvili’s title run will be an exciting watch in the UFC for the fans.
