‘No selfless drama’: Rohit Sharma trolled after KL Rahul- Yashasvi Jaiswal masterclass in Perth Test

New Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma was brutally trolled by fans as openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a batting masterclass during India’s second innings on Day 2 of the 1st Test between India and Australia in Perth. Rohit was mocked over his ‘selfless’ approach in Tests as fans lauded Jaiswal and Rahul for their traditional Test-style approach in Perth.

Rahul and Jaiswal slammed half-centuries apiece and shared an unbeaten 172-run opening stand to help India amass a strong lead of 218 runs in their second innings. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 90 while Rahul scored 62 not out in what was a batting masterclass from the duo to put India on top in the Test match.

Both Jaiswal and Rahul displayed a traditional Test match approach and saw off the new ball spell from the Australian pacers before continuing watchfully to leave the hosts frustrated. The duo were remarkably composed in the middle and batted with patience to share the 2nd highest opening stand for India in Australia in Tests.

While lauding the duo for their masterclass, fans slammed Rohit over his ‘selfless’ approach in the longest format. Rohit has often advocated for an aggressive approach on top of the order and has tried to score quick runs as an opener. However, it has not worked out for the Indian captain, who has managed only 133 runs in his last five matches at a poor average of 13.30.

Rohit Sharma trolled after Rahul and Jaiswal’s partnership in Perth Test:

Proper Test Cricket Batting Going On Rn. Close to 100 runs on board without clownery of “intent”, “Selfless” and 18(11) cameos…. pic.twitter.com/vw14do7xob

This is how Test cricket should be played none of that 24(12) intent or selfless cameos should be encouraged. That Marathi Doremon has deceived the masses

No Intent Drama, No Selfless Drama. Just Pure Classic Batting & Domination from openers 🙌🇮🇳

Rohit Sharma pls Stay away from my beautiful team.

Intent this and intent that, just want to say that this is what happens when both of your openers know the worth of their wickets. We need more of it.

this is how test cricket is played, 100 runs 35-40 overs with 0 wickets, not that intent bullshit and throwing away wicket after scoring 20 (12)….

Rahul, Jaiswal put India in a commanding position

Rahul and Jaiswal put India in a commanding position in the Test match with their brilliant 172-run stand for the first wicket. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah picked up a fifer to run through the Aussie batting line-up and bundle out the hosts for a low-key 104 runs in their first innings, in response to India’s first-innings total of 150 runs.

The Indian openers capitalised well on the 46-run lead as they ended up extending it to 218 runs at stumps on Day 2 with their unbeaten 172-run stand. Rahul and Jaiswal will be looking to continue from where they had left on Day 3 and hand India a huge lead to put Australia on the backfoot in the series opener in Perth.
