No separate vehicle, players must travel by team bus: BCCI to state units

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has informed its state units that separate vehicles shouldn’t be arranged for any player as they are required to travel by the team bus.

It is part of BCCI’s 10-point policy guidelines that it wants to implement on Indian team players after their poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar series, which they lost by a 1-3 margin in Australia.

India will host England for a five T20Is with the series beginning at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on January 22. The Indian team has already reached Kolkata with the BCCI issuing the directive to Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for strict implementation.

As per the BCCI’s newly-introduced standard operating procedure “all players are required to stay for the entire duration of scheduled practice sessions and travel together to and from the venue. This rule ensures commitment and fosters a strong work ethic within the team.”

CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said his association is committed to adhere to the policies.

“In keeping with the BCCI’s 10-point guidelines for players, the Cricket Association of Bengal has not arranged any separate means of conveyance,” the elder brother of former India skipper and BCCI president told PTI.

“Only a team bus has been arranged for the Indian team. There won’t be any personal vehicles for the cricketers. We have to follow the guidelines, which clearly state that all players are expected to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions.”

Rohit Sharma sceptical

India captain has Rohit Sharma is not convinced about certain clauses as several senior cricketers have availed personal vehicles when travelling to and from from stadiums.

These vehicles were arranged by BCCI’s operations team with the help of state units. During the disastrous Australia tour, the team’s two most prominent stars travelled separately with their families.

After the new regulations came into effect, the Indian players arrived to train at Eden Gardens on Sunday in a team bus with head coach Gautam Gambhir being the first to de-board, followed by his support and skipper Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
