New Delhi: Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal lashed out at the Pakistan cricket following its astonishing defeat in the first Test match against Bangladesh on Sunday at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The 42-year-old cricket expert went on to say that Bangladesh exposed the loops in the Shan Masood-led side.
On Day 5, the most likeliest result was draw given that Pakistan were trailing by 94 runs with nine wickets in hand. If going by the nature of the surface at the Rawalpindi stadium, the batters can dictate the terms. But Bangladesh spin duo of Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4 for 21) and Shakib Al Hasan (3 for 44) spun the web around to inflict a Pakistan batting collapse.
Barring wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan (51) and opener Abdullah Shafique (37), no Pakistani batter stood up to build an innings fiercely to extend the lead. As a result, the hosts were bowled out for 146 in the second innings, leaving Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side to chase a minuscule score of 30. Bangladesh openers took just 39 balls to see off the match.
Reacting to the result of the Test, Kamran Akmal commented on his YouTube channel on Sunday:
“It was a difficult time for Bangladesh but their batters scored runs. They had to save the Test, and they not only did that but also won the game. They basically exposed Pakistan cricket. And our players were batting like club cricketers. Sorry, not even club cricketers play like this. The approach was poor. Players are having a laugh in the dressing room, there is no seriousness because they know nobody will ask anything. It seems that you are playing for fun.”
He added:
“Had Rizwan not scored a 50 and ran the scoreboard, you’ve would’ve lost by an innings. You haven’t learned anything in the last 5 years. You lost to Zimbabwe. Last year, you were eliminated from Asia Cup. You were humiliated at the T20 World Cup. Made a complete mockery of Pakistan cricket).”
Bangladesh register first Test win against Pakistan in 23 years
Pakistan and Bangladesh played the first Test match between them in August 2001 during the Asian Test Championship in Multan, Pakistan. The hosts then won by an innings and 264 runs. Since then the two teams played six bilateral series of two or more Test matches with Pakistan sweeping the matches (12 matches won) with only game ending in a draw in 2015.
Bangladesh’s losing streak ended on August 25 after senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim led the charge with the bat. The Bogra-born player was flamboyant throughout his innings, smashing 22 fours and a six, to help the visitors gain a substantial 117-run lead before the spinners ran through Pakistan’s wobbly batting unit.
