‘Now it’s India’s turn’: Memes galore ahead of India-Australia clash following Afghanistan’s win

New Delhi: Afghanistan pulled off a historic win against Australia in their Super Eight clash in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, June 24. Afghanistan stunned the mighty Aussies by successfully defending a moderate total of 148 runs at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent to register their maiden victory against Australia in international cricket. Afghanistan’s victory also ended Australia’s unbeaten run in the T20 World Cup 2024.

It was a valiant effort from Afghanistan, who rode on half-centuries from openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60) and Ibrahim Zadran (51) to post 148 runs on the board in 20 overs before their bowlers produced an excellent combined effort to bundle out Australia for 127 runs in their run chase. Glenn Maxwell was the lone warrior for Australia with a fighting 59-run knock.

However, his knock was not enough to save Australia, who suffered their maiden defeat against Afghanistan across all formats of the game. Afghanistan’s win opened up Group 1 in the Super Eight of T20 World Cup 2024 as it spiced up the race for the semi-finals. Afghanistan’s victory means it’s a three-way race for the two spots in the semi-finals from Group 1.

India currently have four points having won their first two matches in the Super 8 but are yet to secure a spot in the semi-finals. They need to win or avoid a big defeat against Australia to make it to the knockout stage. India also have a chance to eliminate Australia from the tournament by handing them a big defeat in their final Super 8 clash on Monday, June 24. However, Afghanistan will have to beat Bangladesh in their final game on Tuesday to send Australia crashing even if Marsh & Co. lose to India.

Ahead of India’s final Super 8 clash against Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, fans took to Twitter to celebrate Afghanistan’s stunning win with hilarious memes. Some also urged India to book Australia’s tickets back home by beating them after Afghanistan’s historic triumph.
