Olympics cauldron likely to be part of Paris skyline permanently

New Delhi: Since it has become popular attraction among the people of Paris, the Olympics cauldron will have a permanent place in the city.

The flame lay ablaze beneath a huge balloon every night during the Games, located in the Tuileries Gardens between the Louvre Museum and Concorde obelisk, is one of the innovations of the 2024 edition of the Games.

French energy firm EDF used renewable electricity to lit up the flame made of clouds and lit up with the help of Led rays.

Every night of the Games at sunset, the seven metre long blaze of flame was lifted into the sky by a helium balloon for two hours.

10,000 slots daily were booked to see the flame rise up in the sky throughout the Games. The practice will continue during the Paralympics, which begins later this month.

Seeing its popularity, Several French politicians have spoken of the cauldron be made a permanent part of the Paris skyline.

France President Emmanuel Macron has said that the idea “would be a dream for many people” and that his team would “look at all that in due time”.

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo had earlier told France 2 television of her keenness on keeping it.

“I’m not the one who decides since it is on the site of the Louvre, which belongs to the state. So I wrote to the president,” she said, as quoted by AFP.
