New Delhi: The central government is likely to launch ‘National Claim Exchange’ website which would enable processing health insurance claims across hospitals in the country, reports said.
The government’s aim is to provide a one-stop solution to submit and process health insurance claims across hospitals in the country. The portal would act as an interface between health insurance companies, hospitals, and insurance policyholders.
Reports suggested that the government is awaiting for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 results and has planned to launch the portal in the next two-three months.
What is National Claim Exchange
The single-window interface would ensure a shorter waiting period for mediclaims to be settled, pre-authorisation would be faster that would help in timely discharge approvals from insurance companies.
From the first day of its launch, the portal is expected to be accessible across India as reports claimed that the government has already linked around 50 insurance companies and 250 hospitals in the first phase. Later, the government would link more hospitals and insurance firms. The portal will be launched under the National Digital Health Mission.
It is being reported that the ‘one-stop solution’ website has been jointly developed by the National Health Authority (NHA), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai).
In June 2023, Irdai had released a circular asking all health insurance companies to onboard National Claim Exchange. Around 50 insurance providers, including Tata AIG General Insurance, Bajaj Allianz Insurance, 250 private hospitals, and have been conducting meetings and also attending workshops conducted by NHA and Irdai for successful integration of the health insurance companies with the portal.
No age cap on Health Insurance purchase
In May 2024, IRDAI made a big announcement by removing age cap on health insurance purchase with effect from April 1, 2024. With this move, insurance companies are mandated to offer health insurance cover to senior citizens above the age of 65.
The government is planning to launch a national portal, ‘National Health Claims Exchange’, to reduce delays in health insurance claim settlements, reports stated. In the initial phase, the government has already linked around 50 insurance companies and 250 hospitals.
