New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is likely to continue as per schedule despite the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan after ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian armed forces. In well-planned and coordinated strikes, the Indian armed forces targeted nine terror launch pads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) on Wednesday, May 07.
The joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, Air Force and the Navy was executed boldly and successfully, eliminating over 80 terrorists, as per reports. The strikes also targeted infrastructure linked with terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and PoK, responding the Pahalgam terror attack last month which left 26 dead and several injured.
The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility for the ghastly terror attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists opened fire on a group of unarmed tourists. In the wake of Operation Sindoor, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated on the LOC, with Pakistan violating the ceasefire.
However, as per a report in India Today, a top source in the BCCI has claimed that there is no change to the IPL schedule at present and that the tournament will continue without any interruptions. However, the source insisted that the board is monitoring the situation.
“BCCI is monitoring the situation and, depending on circumstances, a call will be taken. For now, the IPL will run as per schedule,” the source was quoted as saying by India Today.
Earlier, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal had stated that the IPL governing council is keeping an eye on the situation and will follow the government’s instructions amid the escalating tensions.
IPL teams’ travel plans affected
Amid the rising tensions on the border, over 200 flights have been cancelled and 18 airports, including Srinagar and Chandigarh and Dharamshala, have been temporarily shut. Major air providers, including Air India Express and Indigo, have suspended operations from airports like Jammu, Pathankot, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala and Jamnagar amid heightened security tensions.
Dharamshala is set to host two matches this week. Punjab Kings will take on Delhi Capitals at the venue on Thursday, May 08, before locking horns with Mumbai Indians on May 11. However, it remains to be seen how MI squad will reach the venue amid suspension of operations at the Dharamshala airport.
