New Delhi: Former Team India skipper, Virat Kohli is one of the most successful cricketers in the world and is known for his brilliant consistency. Even after playing for so many years, he’s still hungry to score runs for the team. However, between 2019 and 2022, he faced a tough phase in his career.
Kohli consistently performed with the bat and played many match-winning knocks for the team but his 71st international century seemed very difficult. Many former cricketers criticised Kohli and questioned his place in the team during the challenging phase. But Kohli replied with his bat by scoring a brilliant hundred in the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Afghanistan in Dubai on September 8, 2022.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma was rested for the match and Kohli got the opportunity to open the innings. He scored 122 runs off 61 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with 12 fours and six maximums. It was not just his maiden T20I century but also the highest individual score by an Indian in the format back then.
Kohli stitched a crucial partnership with stand-in captain KL Rahul. He scored his fifty in 32 balls and continued his brilliant batting by displaying the full range of his shots. During his innings, Kohli used the crease well and also picked the gaps with precision.
He changed the gears in the death overs and smashed sixes with ease. Kohli reached his 71st hundred by smashing a brilliant maximum over deep mid-wicket. His outstanding knock helped Team India to post a total of 212 runs.
