New Delhi: Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Litton Das probably played one of the finest knocks of his cricketing career as he rescued his team from a precarious position with a gritty hundred in the second Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday. He combined with Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s brilliant 78 to get Bangladesh out of Pakistan’s clutches, in what could have been an embarrassing bowl out for a paltry score.
It all happened on Day 3 as Bangladesh were after the 274-run lead acquired by Pakistan. But it turns out Litton’s amazing rescue act wasn’t liked by himself as he said this was not his best Test innings. He with Mehidy stitched a 165-run stand for the seventh wicket, batting nearly for 40 overs to pull Bangladesh out of trouble. Litton soaked in all the pressure pretty well while Mehidy attacked from the other end.
Litton departed at a score of 138 runs after playing 228 balls and was the penultimate wicket of Bangladesh’s innings, helping the team post a valiant 262 in response. During the morning session, it looked like Bangladesh were all set for an embarrassing bundle-out but on the back of Litton and Mehidy, the team scripted a great turnaround.
As the day concluded, at the press conference, Litton was asked if this was his best Test innings. The batter quickly replied, recalling his 141 vs Sri Lanka as the best innings of his career. “Not really (if this was his best Test knock). I scored 141 vs Sri Lanka, it was the same situation. This is a good total. I am lucky to get the opportunity and I am happy,” Litton said.
Litton reveals game plan
Litton was asked about his game plan with Mehidy to which he said that the duo wanted to break the momentum of the Pakistan pacers who were wreaking havoc during the morning session of Day 3. Khurram Shahzad was the destroyer in chief as he picked up a six-wicket haul, removing the top-order of Bangladesh under 12 overs.
Pakistan soon started their second innings and lost two wickets for a mere nine runs as Hasan Mahmud removed Abdullah Shafique and Khurram Shahzad. Pakistan currently lead by 21 runs and it will be exciting to watch how the remaining two days fold out.
Litton Das came to Bangladesh’s rescue when Khurram Shehzad sent the team reeling at 26/6 in the first 12 overs of their first innings. He however said this is not his best Test innings. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
