Pakistan plans to organise PSL during IPL window next year

New Delhi: The Pakistan Super League could coincide with the Indian Premier League next year due to the ICC World T20 Cup’s schedule.

The PSL is generally held in February-March but as the 2026 T20 World Cup is slotted for that window alongside with International Cricket Council’s future tours programme, it could be pushed to April-May when the IPL is held.

Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy in February-March this year to push back PSL’s beginning this year too to the April-May slot.

“There is a window available to the Pakistan board in December and first half of January but it has already given NOCs to Pakistani players to play in the Big Bash in Australia in this period and has also planned some domestic activities.

“So the discussion now with the franchise owners is to prepare for the PSL to be held in April-May just like this year,” a Pakistan Cricket Board source told PTI.

Depsite PSL overlapping with the IPL, it didn’t affect its viewership and general interest, a tournament official claimed.

“Initially there was some concern that having the PSL in the same window as the IPL might hit our league but surprisingly viewership figures on TV and other media improved and the franchise owners got a chance to sign on some notable overseas players who were not picked in the IPL auction,” he added.

Pakistan’s flagship T20 franchise tournament has completed 10 years and the PCB is mulling to increase the franchise fees of the six existing teams by 25 per cent.

Save Multan Sultans, all the other five teams have written to the PCB of their willingness to retain ownership for the next 10 years.

PCB wants to add two more teams in the next edition and is keen to review the 10-year title sponsorship agreement alongside a new deal for live streaming.

PCB receives around 900 million Pakstani rupees from title sponsorship per year and sold its live streaming rights for approximately 1.8 billion last year.
Local broadcast rights brought in 6.3 billion while international rights generally $4.6 million. The PCB received around PKR 2 billion for two years for ground rights and signed a two-year deal worth $2.25 million yearly for TV production.

The PCB will issue tenders for all these agreements after a lengthy process following due diligence.
