Karachi: A Pakistani man slaughtered four female members of his family, including his mother and sister, for their “liberal” lifestyle and using social media, police said here on Monday.
Bilal Ahmed was arrested on Saturday and appeared in court on Monday, where he was placed in police custody.
During the court hearing, Ahmed confessed to slitting the throats of his mother, sister, niece, and sister-in-law. He claimed their “liberal” lifestyle damaged his marriage and that they constantly nagged him.
“It is an open and shut case of Bilal being mentally unstable and ultra-conservative,” said investigating officer Shaukat Awan.
The bodies of the four women were discovered in their home in Karachi’s Soldier Bazar area on Saturday, all with their throats cut.
“During the investigation, it came to light that Bilal used to have daily fights with the women and he used to blame them and their ‘liberal’ lifestyle for his wife leaving him as she was a religious person,” Awan stated.
Bilal was particularly angry about the women using social media and was upset with his sister and niece for sharing pictures and videos online. He told police that he initially wanted to “teach his sister a lesson” but later realized he couldn’t leave any witnesses, so he killed all four women.
