New Delhi: Pakistan cricket team started its new white-ball era under the leadership of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan with a banger. They defeated Australia by eight wickets in the third and final One-Day International match at the Perth Stadium on Sunday to clinch the three-match series 2-1.
This was a historic win for Pakistan as they won their first ODI series in Australia since 2001. Despite losing in a close fight in the first match at the MCG, Pakistan bowlers fired on all cylinders to bowl out Australia for sub-par totals 163 in Adelaide and 140 in Perth.
The last time Pakistan won the ODI series in Australia in 2002 with a similar margin, it was accomplished under the captaincy of legendary pacer Waqar Younis with wins in Melbourne and Brisbane. Pakistan cricket fans and supporters of the Pakistan national team were in a jubilant mode with the recent success of Mohammad Rizwan and his men Down Under.

Haris Rauf awarded Player of the Series
Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was instrumental with his bowling in the middle overs. The timely interventions kept the Australian batters on backfoot as Pakistan bowlers were tremendous throughout the series. Rauf carried his experience of playing in the Big Bash League for Melbourne Stars. One of the noteworthy achievements for the pacer was to dismiss Glenn Maxwell (former captain of Melbourne Stars) three times in as many matches in the series.
The 31-year-old Rauf finished with 10 wickets in three matches, the most for any bowler from both the teams. He claimed his second ODI five-wicket haul in the second match in Adelaide with figures of 5 for 29.
“First of all, thanks to almighty Allah, it means a lot, we’ve been struggling in the last couple of months, this series was very important to both Pakistan and the team. Thanks to all the fans who came here to support us, thanks to everyone supporting us around the world,” Rauf said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
“We had a lot of practice in the nets, we spoke to each other as a bowling group, the communication was good and that’s very important. Maxi is a superstar, a legend, just try to dismiss him and I was lucky to dismiss him thrice in the series,” he added.
