Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to Narendra Modi on Monday for being re-elected as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term. This message of ‘goodwill’ came six days after PM Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party in the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of parliament.
“Felicitations to Narendra Modi on taking oath as the Prime Minister of India,” Sharif wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. PM Modi’s re-election marks a significant political milestone as he continues to lead the BJP in maintaining a dominant position in Indian politics. The BJP‘s victory solidifies PM Modi’s leadership.
Sharif’s message comes on the heels of attack in J&K
Sharif’s message comes at a time when the relationship between Pakistan and India remains tense. Just yesterday, while the ministers were taking oath, Hindu pilgrims in J&K’s Reasi sector were attacked by terrorists. 9 people have already lost their life. Several are injured.
As Modi begins his third term, observers are keen to see how his administration will approach key issues affecting the subcontinent, including bilateral relations with Pakistan. Pakistan is the only nation in the Indian subcontinent that wasn’t invited for the swearing in ceremony.
