New Delhi: Pankaj Advani, India’s billiards maestro, added another feather to his cap after clinching the 14th gold medal at the Asian Snooker Championship in Doha. Advani showcased his brilliance on the international stage making the country proud yet again as he added another feat to his long list of accolades.

This victory becomes more special as it comes just days after Advani won the National Snooker Championship in Indore, proving again why he remains India’s most renowned cueist. The title win in Doha adds to Advani’s long list of milestones which he has achieved in his illustrious career. The billiards player now has five Asian snooker titles (across 15-red, 6-reds and team formats) along with nine Asian billiards titles.

Asian Games gold medals headline Advani’s career

An addition to the staggering list of Advani’s accolades are his two Asian Games gold medals which he bagged in the year 2006 and 2010. These medals highlight his dominance and reflect on the dedication he has put in from the last two decades almost. With his latest achievement, Advani has inched closer to an unprecedented achievement in his career of winning the National, Asian and World Snooker Championships in a single calendar year.

Having already earned the feat in billiards, completing it in snooker would make him the only player in history to do so in both disciplines. Meanwhile, the final against Iran’s Amir Sarkhosh was a game to watch out for where Amir was quick to capture an early lead but Advani, who is known for his composure, outplayed his opponent in style.

After his victory, Advani said that winning his 14th Asian title makes him feel elated as it is incredibly special in snooker. He admitted that it had been a tough tournament and he’s thrilled to add another gold medal to his kitty. Advani has now set his sights on the World Snooker Championship later in the year.
