Para-badminton contingent felicitated after prolific Paris 2024 Paralympics campaign

New Delhi: The Para-Badminton contingent returned to New Delhi on Wednesday (September 4) after a prolific campaign at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Upon their arrival in the national capital, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the contingent.

India produced their best-ever performance in Para-Badminton winning a total of five medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze) in Paris 2024.

Congratulating the athletes, Dr Mandaviya expressed pride and elation in their achievements. “You have made the entire nation proud with your outstanding performance. Your dedication and spirit have set a new benchmark for Indian sports,” he said.

He further spoke on India’s progress in international sporting events and highlighted the country’s improved displays in both the Olympics and Paralympics over the past decade.

The Union Minister further stressed the commitment to supporting para-athletes with better facilities, training, infrastructure and opportunities to help them perform to their optimum levels, assuring the contingent of continued support.

Shuttlers make India proud

Indian para-shuttlers produced a remarkable performance in the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics. The para-badminton contingent won a total of five medals including a gold medal. Nitesh Kumar claimed the top-podium finish in the Men’s singles SL3 event and ensured the title remained in India.

Meanwhile, Suhas Yathiraj and Thulasimathi Murugesan claimed silver in the SL4 and SU5 categories respectively while Manisha Ramadass and Nithya Sre Sivan added to the tally by clinching a bronze each in the women’s singles SU5 and women’s singles SH6.

India won the second-most medals in Para-badminton in the Paris Games, second behind para-athletics which has yielded 11 medals.

India have registered the best-ever medal haul in the history of the Paralympics with 21 medals so far. With three gold, seven silver and 11 bronze, Indian athletes have produced a remarkable performance in the ongoing edition of the Paralympics in the French capital.
