Paras Mhambrey makes bold prediction on two Indian bowling stars’ future

New Delhi: Team India’s former bowling coach Paras Mhambrey emphasized that the new team management must discuss the future of Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin. Both players have been an integral part of the team India’s bowling attack.

Ashwin played his 100th Test match for India during the five-match Test series against England. Shami is recovering from an ankle injury and has been out of the action since ODI World Cup 2023.

Mhambrey said that it’s time to discuss with Ashwin and Shami about their future and when the team invested in youth the management made sure they had seniors with them.

“It is time to have a discussion with Shami and Ashwin about their future. When we invested in youth, we made sure that they had seniors with them. Be it, Arshdeep Singh or Avesh Khan; we kept the senior close to them” Mhambrey said in an interview with Times of India.

Mhambrey also said that a timeline can’t be made while creating a pool of fast bowlers and highlighted their efforts of building India’s current pace bowling attack in 2015 and finished the job by 2020.

He also took the example of Arshdeep Singh and said that he took part in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and became a crucial part of the senior team in 2024.

“We started in 2015, and the pool was ready by 2020. If you look at Arshdeep, he participated in the U-19 World Cup in 2018 and became an integral part of the senior team in 2024. A young pacer takes four to five years to hit his peak” he added.

‘Knew how the pitches would behave in West Indies’: Paras Mhambrey

Before the start of the T20 World Cup, many fans and experts questioned the management’s decision to include three left-arm spinner in the squad. He said that the management knew about how the pitches would behave in the West Indies.

“We knew how the pitches would behave in the West Indies. Because of so much cricket being played, we knew they would have enough wear and tear. The US was completely alien because they were using drop-in pitches and it was challenging for everyone. 100-120 were winning totals there. But in the West Indies, we knew what to expect. We knew it would turn and you needed someone to attack the stumps” he added.
