Paris Olympics: Shooter Arjun Babuta finishes fourth to miss out on podium place

New Delhi: Arjun Babuta finished in the fourth place in the 10m air rifle men’s final round at the Paris Olympics on Monday.

The Punjab-born athlete narrowly failed to be on the podium after fighting valiantly till the 20th shot.

Babuta was third after the first phase of five shots with 52.4 points and maintained his position after the second phase of 10 shots with 105.0 points.

He then improved to the second spot and was in a tussle with China’s Sheng Lihao for the top spot while Croatia’s Miran Maricic was also in the hunt for the second spot.

Babuta was in medal contention till the 18th shot, when he achieved a score of 10.1 when he slipped to the fourth spot. in the end he finished with a total of 208.4 points after 20 shots.

World record holder Sheng Lihao won gold with a score of 252.2 points. The 19-year-old also achieved the Olympic record. It was his second gold medal at Paris, after helping China win the mixed event gold as well.

Sweden’s Victor Lindgren got silver with 251.2 points while Croatia’s Miran Maricic grabbed bronze with a score of 230 points.
