PKL 11: Bengal Warriorz edge out Haryana Steelers, Puneri Paltan defeat U Mumba

New Delhi: Maninder Singh and Fazel Atrachali lifted Bengal Warriorz against Haryana Steelers with their stellar performances as the team came from behind to clinch a thrilling 40-38 victory. Meanwhile, Puneri Paltan got the good of U Mumba in the second clash, winning the ‘Maha Maharashtra Derby’ by 35-28. The clashes took place at the GMCB Indoor Stadium in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

For Bengal, Singh clinched 12 points and Fazel had four which sealed the issue for them, while for the Steelers Vinay scored 10 points and Mohammadreza Shadloui logged 9. In the second clash, skipper Aslam Inamdar rose to the occasion with 10 points in his kitty, out of which nine were raid points. He was ably supported by Gaurav Khatri who secured seven tackle points and Mohit Goyat had nine raid points to his name. For U Mumba, Ajit Chavan starred by taking nine raid points.

The Warriorz and the Steelers began the game cautiously but the Steelers were quick to bag the first point, showcasing their defensive powers. The Steelers soon found their rhythm and took a six-point lead in as many minutes. For the Steelers, Shivam Patare had the most points early on and skipper Jaideep was leading the side with a statement on the mat.

Midway through the first half, Fazel Atrachali made a Super Tackle but the Steelers continued to stay ahead in the scoresheet. It was at this point that Maninder scored a flurry of raids which brought the Warriorz on on level with the Steelers. With just four minutes remaining for halftime, Mayur Kadam pulled off an ALL OUT on the Steelers and the Warriorz took the lead for the first time. Scored were 19-19 at the stroke of half-time with both sides looking solid.

Fazel and Maninder – the saviours

Fazel went on to pick a couple of crucial points and Maninder chipped in as well in the heroics, stretching the lead with four points. It was the shots of the day for the Warriorz by Fazel and Maninder while Vinay and Shivam Patare led the way for the Steelers. Seven minutes passed into the second half, and Maninder completed his first Super 10 of the season as the Warriorz continued to march for the lead.

In the final half, the Warriorz looked to tighten their grip on the game even after the Haryana Steelers were mounting a late comeback with the likes of Mohmmadreza Shadloui and Sanjay. However, when the Steelers almost imposed a threat to turn the tables, Praveen Thakur inflicted a brilliant ALL OUT, giving the Warriorz some breathing space, and ultimately the Warriorz bagged a memorable victory.
