New Delhi: The Catalan giants won the Champions League 5-4 after an amazing comeback from a 4-2 deficit last night. There was a lot of controversy around Barca’s victory since Benfica said they should have received a penalty in the 96th minute. Raphinha, however, ran straight up the other end to score a last-minute winner after the referee refused to award it. Following a protracted VAR delay that would effectively determine the outcome of the game, Barca’s goal remained and the hosts’ spot-kick appeals were rejected.

Temper tantrums were said to have erupted in the tunnel during full-time. Players from Barcelona and Benfica apparently got into a fight, and “screams” could be heard. According to reports, police had to step in, pulling Raphinha away and securing the locker room doors for both sides.

What happened after the game?

Barcelona star Raphinha was clearly not happy with how the Benfica players reacted and he had some bold statements to make when he was asked about the entire situation.

“I’m a person who respects everyone, but when I was leaving the pitch there were people who insulted me.

“I returned the insults. I know I shouldn’t do it, but I returned the insults. In the end we all got heated.

The Brazilian also expressed himself by saying that the Benfica players might have comprehended the circumstances, but they chose to disparage him instead.

“I’m a person who doesn’t take anything home, what they say to me, they’re going to hear it too.

“It was something that happened, we were all heated, but it’s normal in football after the end of a match like this.”

Three penalties were awarded throughout the chaotic game, Benfica’s Vangelis Pavlidis scored a hat-trick, Barca star Ronald Araujo scored an own goal, and goalie Wojciech Szczesny destroyed his own teammate. Raphinha’s attempt, dubbed “the weirdest goal ever” by supporters, put the score at 4-2 prior to his victory.

The ball was blasted up the field by Benfica keeper Anatoliy Trubin, but it struck the Brazilian winger’s head from 25 yards out and soared into the open net. Bruno Lage, the manager of the Portuguese squad, gave an impassioned team speech on the field during full time.

Following a thrilling Champions League match in Lisbon, police had to intervene to keep the players from Benfica and Barcelona apart.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
