Premier League 2024/25: Erling Haaland breaks Wayne Rooney’s record in Man City’s win

New Delhi: Erling Haaland has been a revelation in the Premier League ever since he joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022. He has been a prolific striker wherever he’s been since he broke onto the scene at Molde but he’s taken his performances to another level since arriving in Manchester. Seemingly allergic to scoring a single goal, he scored a brace to help his side come back from a goal down to win 2-1 and broke Wayne Rooney’s 13-year old record.

With his goals against Brentford, Haaland has now scored nine goals in the first four games of the Premier League season, bettering Rooney’s record of eight goals in four games at the start of the 2011-12 season. Haaland now officially has produced the most prolific start to a Premier League, scoring more goals than any other team in the league barring his own. His prolific form over the season has seen Manchester City become the pacesetters for the Premier League title.

There was doubt whether the Norwegian would even play in the win over Brentford after the passing of a close family friend but he put all his personal problems aside to show up for his team. His nine goals this season means he’s now scored 72 goals in just 70 Premier League games. The 24-year-old is averaging more than one goal a game which are unreal numbers for a player playing in arguably the toughest league in the world.

Even his manager, Pep Guardiola, was quick to sing praises for his striker, saying he might be in his best form. He said, “I’d say the best [form] but just four fixtures, not many games.” He even mentioned that the Norwegian is an important weapon for his team and his performances over the course of his time at the club reflect the same. He came very close to making it three consecutive hattricks for himself in the game against Brentford, only to be denied by the post.

The striker has now netted more Premier League goals than both Luis Suarez and Eric Cantona and he will need to be at top form once again next weekend when Manchester City welcome Arsenal at the Etihad in an early season title decider. The top two teams of the previous season will battle it out once again next weekend in a bid to further their claim of being seen as potential title contenders.

Manchester City’s Norwegian goal machine scored a brace in their latest Premier League win over Brentford and broke yet another Premier League record.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
