Premier League bound? Tottenham agree fee with Bayern Munich for wantaway youngster Mathys Tel

New Delhi: Bayern Munich’s highly rated youngster, Mathys Tel has requested to leave the club in this window after growing frustrated with the lack of game time he’s received in this season. The 19-year-old has attracted interest from all over Europe and has been linked with multiple clubs in the last few days, with the Premier League looking like a possible destination for the Frenchman as he has drawn significant interest from top Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa, creating a competitive race for his signature.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stolen a march on their rivals and have reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Tel, in a deal worth £50 million, according to multiple sources. Initially, Spurs had shown interest in acquiring Tel on a loan deal during the January transfer window. However, reports from France, notably L’Equipe, suggest that Tottenham have escalated their efforts and successfully negotiated a fee with the Bundesliga champions.

Despite the agreement between the clubs, Tel has not yet committed to a move to north London, leaving the door open for other suitors to make their move. According to ESPN, Tel’s representatives are assessing all potential options before making a decision. While Tottenham are confident that personal terms can be finalized swiftly should the teenager choose to join Ange Postecoglou’s side, the player and his entourage are keen to evaluate the interest from other clubs before reaching a conclusion.

Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea remain in the hunt, with all three clubs reportedly monitoring the situation closely. Aston Villa has also entered the fray, viewing Tel as a potential replacement for Jhon Durán, who is set to depart. Although Durán and Tel possess different playing styles, Villa are convinced of the Frenchman’s ability to bolster their attacking options.

Tel, a France under-21 international, is widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents. Known for his pace, versatility, and eye for goal, he has attracted attention from elite clubs across the continent. After struggling for consistent game time at Bayern Munich, the forward appears ready to seek a new challenge to accelerate his development. The coming days will be pivotal as clubs scramble to secure Tel’s services.

Tottenham, having taken the lead in negotiations, hope to convince the teenager to make north London his new home. However, with heavyweights like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea still in the mix, the competition remains fierce. The final decision rests with Tel, who must weigh his options carefully as he contemplates the next step in his promising career.

The race to sign Mathys Tel remains open

While Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich which gives them an edge over other suitors currently, it doesn’t necessarily indicate that the Lilywhites will get the 19-year-old. Tel has a lot of offers on his plate with as many as seven clubs interested in his services, which means the attacker would take some time before making his decision indicating that the race to sign him still remains open.

Manchester United are looking to sign the Frenchman on loan this season if they lose both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. Spurs’ rivals Chelsea have been interested in Tel since the summer and are trying to convince the attacker to join the club by assuring him game time as he doesn’t want to move from one bench to another. Bayern’s interest in Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku could tip the scales in their favour but the club would need to get Tel on board with the move.
