Following Storm Darragh’s widespread disruption, the decision was made due to safety purposes. On Merseyside, a yellow wind warning and an amber weather alert were issued early on Saturday. With the cancellation of Friday’s Championship games between Cardiff City and Watford and Plymouth Argyle and Oxford United, the match is the first Premier League match to be postponed because of Storm Darragh. As Everton get ready to move to their new Bradley-Moore Dock stadium for the upcoming season, the postponed match will be the last Merseyside derby to take place at Goodison Park, barring any FA Cup encounter.
After winning 11 of their first 14 Premier League games under Arne Slot, Liverpool are currently leading the Premier League table. They are seven points clear of Chelsea, who are in second place and Arsenal in third, but if Mikel Arteta’s team win against Fulham or Enzo Maresca’s team defeat Tottenham Hotspur, that margin could be reduced to four by the conclusion of the weekend.
