Premier League: Mo Salah adds another feather to his cap with goal vs Wolves

New Delhi: Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah adds another to his already impressive list of records with the Reds as he doubled his side’s lead against Wolves to send his team 2-0 ahead at the break. The Reds went into the game knowing that a win would restore their lead to seven points once again after Arsenal had provisionally cut it to four last night. They began the game with that intent as well and quickly opened the scoring.

Luis Diaz bundled the ball into the Wolves goal to open his account in 2025 and give his side the lead. The Colombian was at forefront of the second goal as well as he won a penalty for the Reds in the 37th minute, drawing a foul from the onrushing Jose Sa. Salah, Liverpool’s usual penalty taker, stepped up to take the spot kick and smashed it right down the middle of the net to double Liverpool’s lead.

With his goal against Wolves, Salah has now scored all seven of his penalties in the league this season, maintaining a 100% record form the spot in English football. The only time he missed was in a UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid earlier in the season. This was the 32nd penalty that the Egypt International has scored for the Reds during his time at Liverpool, with only Alan Shearer, Frank Lampard and Harry Kane scoring more penalties for a single club.

With 32 strikes from the spot, he also became the club’s joint-highest scoring penalty taker in the Premier League history. He sits joint top with Liverpool legend and former captain Steven Gerrard, who has also scored 32 penalties for the Reds. However, given that a huge chunk of the season is still remaining, it seems like that Salah would surpass Gerrard’s tally by the time this season ends and become the highest scoring penalty scorer.

The Egyptian King makes Anfield his Kingdom

Salah, affectionately known as the Egyptian King by the Liverpool faithful, has been scoring for fun ever since he joined the Reds back in 2017. He scored a whopping 44 goals in that campaign which set the tone for the rest of his Liverpool career and is now the third highest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history. He has scored 239 goals for the club including his strike vs Wolves, he has now scored 101 Premier League goals at Anfield.

While he already held the record of scoring the most number of league goals at Anfield, with his 101st strike at the stadium, he has moved level with Wayne Rooney, who scored the same number of goals at Old Trafford, for most goals at a single stadium in the Premier League. Only Sergio Aguero, who scored 106 goals at Etihad and Thierry Henry, who got a 114 at Highbury have more than the Egyptian.
