Oklahoma: A 59-year-old Indian-American man died in United States’ Oklahoma following an assault as another man punched him in the face. The incident occurred around 10 PM on June 22, prompting the police to respond to a call from a motel parking lot near Interstate 40 and Meridian Avenue.
Police informed local media that the man identified as Hemant Mistry lost consciousness after being punched. He was taken to a hospital, where he passed away around 7:40 PM on June 23.
Mistry, who hailed from Gujarat, was the motel manager. He was allegedly punched by the accused, 41-year-old Richard Lewis, after the former had asked him to leave the property.
Lewis was later found at a hotel in the 1900 block of S Meridian Avenue and taken into custody. On June 24, he was held at the Oklahoma County Jail on a $100,000 bond, facing charges of aggravated assault and battery.
Oklahoma City police told the media it was unclear why the suspect was asked to leave the property, but he was unwilling to leave which might have led to the altercation.
