Punjab Woman Killed, Another Critically Injured in US Shooting; Suspect Held

New Jersey: Two women from Punjab were shot by an Indian-origin man in United States’s New Jersey, resulting in one death and leaving the other critically injured. The shooting occurred outside a residence in Carteret, New Jersey.

US media reported that a youth named Gaurav Gill, 19, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the case.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic demise of Ms. Jasvir Kaur and injuries to Ms. Gagandeep Kaur in a shooting on Roosevelt Av, Cartaret, New Jersey. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased,” The Consulate General of India in New York said in a post on X on June 14.

Gill allegedly shot 29-year-old Jasvir Kaur, resulting in her death, and also injured her 20-year-old cousin, Gagandeep Kaur, who remains hospitalised. Both women lived together at a home one block away from the shooting scene on Roosevelt Avenue.

Gill was nabbed after a six-hour manhunt and faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of weapons.
