New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is reportedly said to tie knot later in the month before returning back to court for Badminton World Tour. This comes after the double-Olympic medallist recently ended her title drought in Lucknow on Sunday.
Sindhu, 29, will marry on December 22 in the Udaipur city of Rajasthan, according to a report by Sportstar. She will be marrying Venkatta Datta Sai, who currently holds the role of Executive Director in Hyderabad-based Posidex Technologies.
As per family members of Sindhu, the wedding ceremony functions will start on December 20. The reception will be held on December 24 in Hyderabad. Sindhu is expected to return for her upcoming badminton competitions in early January as she intends to participate in Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Thailand with her main target being to prepare for the 2025 World Badminton Championships in Paris.
PV Sindhu has no retirement plans after title triumph in Lucknow
PV Sindhu struggled in the badminton circuit to finish at the top of the podium for more than two years as the wait ended on Sunday (December 1) when she lifted the Syed Modi International 300 title at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow. She prevailed over China’s unseeded player Wu Luo in straight games 21-14, 21-16 in 47 minutes.
The Indian shuttler won her third Syed Modi title after winning the event in 2017 and 2022. She also clinched her first major title since the Singapore Open in July 2022. This comes as a huge relief for the Hyderabad-based shuttler after she was knocked out from Paris Olympics in the Round of 16 by eventual silver medallist He Bing Jiao. She also lost the second round in China Masters to Yeo Jia Min of Singapore.
After her title triumph in Lucknow, Sindhu said that she can still play for two more years and has no retirement plans, though a decision on Los Angeles Olympics participation will be taken later onwards.
This (win) will definitely give me a lot of confidence. Being 29 is an advantage in many ways because I have a lot of experience. Being smart and experienced is key, and I’m definitely going to play for the next couple of years,” Sindhu told reporters.
“My main goal is to stay injury-free, which is very, very important. Los Angeles (Olympics) is still too far away. I will definitely play, but the main thing is staying injury-free and enjoying the sport. If I stay fit, then why not?” she added.
