New Delhi: After the extravagant pre-wedding festivities and sangeet ceremony of the Ambanis and Merchants, a video has surfaced online of the bride-to-be Radhika Merchant performing Graha Shanti Puja before the wedding nuptials. The bride-to-be tried to keep it simple and elegant.
In the video, the bride-to-be Radhika Merchant is seen in a Kanjivaram Kanchipuram traditional silk South Indian style saree. Her nine yards featured a golden border with zari work. Ethnic motifs are woven along the side of the borders of the saree. White represents purity and is associated with new beginnings. Besides, gold is the colour of success, achievement, and triumph. The bride had teamed it with a pink-coloured heavily embroidered blouse. She complemented her look with a diamond necklace, earrings, maang tikka, and a Maharashtrian nath which is also known as Peshwai Nath. What made the simplicity of the Merchant bride stand out was her Peshwai Nath. The Nath is an essential part of traditional Maharashtrian attire, especially during weddings and religious ceremonies. It is typically worn by brides, signifying their transition to a new phase in life. The elaborate designs and vibrant gemstones symbolise prosperity, fertility, and joy.
As the video continues, it shows Radhika’s mum performing the puja while the bride is all smiles. The combination of white and gold is immense, as the colours represent peace, spirituality, and harmony. This combination of gold and white is considered auspicious and symbolises purity, elegance, and prosperity. Wearing white and gold during these auspicious rituals adheres to cultural customs and creates a celebratory atmosphere.
Significance of Graha Shanti Puja
The Graha Shanti Puja aims to ensure that the planets are aligned for the bride and groom to live a happy life together, thus translating to “peace planets.” The ceremony is conducted on the eve of the wedding day, with the bride and groom separated into their respective homes or venues with their families. Because this is the final evening of the bride and groom being singular of one another, the ceremony tends to bring out a lot of emotion for the families on both sides.
The couple Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are going to get married on July 12 at Jio World Center.
