New Delhi: Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9, 2024, has bequeathed a wealth of Rs 500 crore to a ‘mystery’ man, a report mentioned. The inclusion of Mohini Mohan Dutta in the erstwhile Tata patriarch’s Will has shocked the inner circle of Tata Group.

Ratan Tata’s association with Dutta was known to few. The beneficiary is an entrepreneur in the travel sector originally from Jamshedpur, The Economic Times reported. The report claimed that Dutta and family owned a travel agency called Stallion which was merged with Taj Services, part of the Taj Group of Hotels, in 2013. Dutta and his family held 80 per cent stake in Stallion, and the remaining was owned by Tata Industries.

Mohini Mohan Dutta: The Unexpected Heir

Dutta also served as a director of TC Travel Services, an erstwhile affiliate of Thomas Cook. Dutta has two daughters, one of them worked at Tata Trusts for nine years until 2024. Prior to that, she worked at Taj Hotels. Meanwhile, Mohini Dutta declined to comment. Among the executors of the will.

ET reported citing Tata Group sources (who did not wish to be named) claimed that Mohini Mohan Dutta used to describe himself as being close to Tata family members and met the late industrialist in Jamshedpur at the Dealers’ Hostel when the latter was 24. He claimed that Ratan Tata “built him up” and they knew each other for 64 years.

Ratan Tata had an estimated net worth of Rs 8000 crore out of which he donated most of his wealth to charity. Tata Group’s chairman emeritus and veteran industrialist Ratan Tata died at a Mumbai hospital. He is credited to lead the salt-to-software conglomerate to new heights.

Ratan Tata was a Padma Vibhushan. He breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
