Real Madrid’s Eder Militão set for surgery following ACL injury

New Delhi: Eder Militao has torn his right foot ACL with Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez also substituted during Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Osasuna. Real Madrid’s injury woes have been growing this season. While Militao is likely to be on the sidelines for a long period of time, the later two are likely to return to action in a few weeks’ time.

Last year, Militao suffered an ACL injury on his left foot during the opening match of the season. The Brazilian returned in March and helped his side lift La Liga and the Champions League. On Saturday night, Militao suffered yet another injury setback and was taken off on a stretcher and replaced with Raul Asencio.

Real Madrid’s mounting injury list

Madrid later confirmed his injury status in a statement and noted that the 26-year-old would undergo surgery. Militao became the fourth player in over a year in the Madrid camp to suffer ACL, with Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba also suffering the same injury. Los Blanco will have issues in their defence with Dani Carvajal out for the season and Alaba still recovering.

In addition, Courtois is still out with a thigh injury, and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is known for filling in the back, has yet to return from an ankle sprain. For Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Militao’s absence is a big blow to their title defence as he, along with Antonio Rudiger, anchors the backline.

Ancelotti chose not to comment on January signings more critical in light of the string of injuries that his side faces. The Madrid manager stated that they would, “evaluate” the situation during the next few months. At Santiago Bernabeu Real were under immense pressure, having lost their last two games in the venue. The first loss came at the hands of archrivals Barcelona, and then AC Milan thrashed 3-1 the side during the Champions League game.

Eder Militao suffered his second ACL injury in a year during Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Osasuna.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
