New Delhi: Antonio Pintus, Real Madrid’s physical trainer, has been the subject of increasing scrutiny recently due to a string of ailments that have struck the squad this season. This is a significant departure from the kudos Pintus received the previous season, when Real Madrid won the La Liga title, the Spanish Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League in spite of several injuries. Many have taken notice of the change in viewpoint, particularly given that there have been a lot more injuries this season than in prior years.

To date, the squad’s physical training has been directly responsible for 25 separate injuries sustained by the first team. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin’s illness is not included in this figure. For comparison, Real Madrid had 15 injuries at this stage of the 2023–24 season, a significant decrease from this season. The team suffered 19 injuries two years ago, when they were dealing with the extra strain of a full schedule because of the World Cup. None of those injuries prevented athletes from playing for longer than a month even at that time.
Only four of the 15 injuries that occurred during the 2021–22 season—when Pintus returned to the squad under coach Carlo Ancelotti—led to absences of more than four weeks. But with injuries occurring at a significantly higher incidence than in prior seasons, many have begun to doubt the efficacy of Pintus’ strategies.
Injury striking the defence
‼️⚪𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐧: Real Madrid had already decided to sign one, if not two central defenders between January and next summer. With Éder Militão’s latest injury, the urgency increases.

The defense has been hit the worst, according to a deeper look at the injuries. Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, two important players, have also sustained injuries. Militao has had three different injuries, which is really regrettable. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni have both sustained noteworthy injuries; both have missed two games this season.
It’s crucial to remember that not all injuries have kept players out for an extended period of time, even though some have been rather serious. For instance, Tchouameni kept playing until his most recent ankle problem took him off the field despite having a foot injury. Since the previous season, Jude Bellingham has also been battling a persistent shoulder issue. The sheer volume of these injuries has begun to raise concerns, even though many of them have not been chronic.

With the exception of an ACL, Eduardo Camavinga has sustained the longest injury thus far this season. He missed precisely six weeks of action after a knee sprain sustained after being challenged by teammate Tchouameni shortly before the Super Cup. Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz also sustained noteworthy injuries, missing more than a month of play. A sprained ankle kept Ceballos out of six games in September, while Diaz missed eight games because of a lengthy abductor problem in his right leg.
The club’s fitness and medical departments are being closely watched because of how frequently these injuries occur, even if many of them only last a short time. There will probably be more pressure on Pintus and his strategies as long as Real Madrid has injuries.
The medical and fitness teams will almost certainly continue to be closely watched if the team’s injury issues continue, particularly as the season goes on and the squad’s depth is put to the test. In the end, even if the club has overcome a lot of these ailments, Real Madrid may need to reevaluate their physical training regimen given the persistent worries about Pintus’ style. The pressure to find a solution will only increase if injuries continue to escalate.
