New Delhi: Real Madrid’s defender Dani Carvajal has confirmed he will be undergoing surgery for sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury during Madrid’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in La Liga. The 32-year-old was carried out of the pitch on a stretcher during the stoppage time after a clash with Villarreal midfielder Yeremy Pino.
The duel caused Carvajal to sprain his right knee; he later confirmed via social media that he would be out of action for the upcoming few months. Carvajal’s injury is a huge setback for Madrid as he is a core member of the squad and is a contender for Ballon d’Or this year.
The Spanish international thanked his supporters as he looked forward to the recovery process. Defending champions were able to secure a much-needed victory for themselves after losing 1-0 to Lile at the Champions League and played a draw in the Madrid derby.
Ancelotti’s take on repeated injuries in his squad
After Carvajal’s injury, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed concerns over the injury and remarked that despite the win, the mood in the dressing room was sombre. Ancelotti mentioned that the packed calendar was causing many repeated injuries, and his club had lost one of its most important players this season.
Ancelotti further noted that Carvajal’s experience and seriousness in the game made him indispensable to the side. Ancelotti mentioned that they were doing everything in their power to support the former Bayer Leverkusen player through his recovery. The Spanish club had already played without their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who suffered an abductor muscle injury during the clash with Atletico Madrid last weekend.
Earlier, Ancelotti’s side suffered a setback by losing their biggest summer buy, Kylian Mbappe, who has since returned to the game. Ancelotti has repeatedly said that the packed calendar is going to cause more injuries.
