New Delhi: Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest batter to score an IPL century and smashed the second fastest ton in the tournament’s history to keep Rajasthan Royals’ play-off hopes alive.

At the age of 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi scored 101 off 37 balls, bringing up his hundred in only 35 balls, hitting 11 sixes and seven fours, as Rajasthan Royals defeated Gujarat Titans by eight wickets in Jaipur on Monday.

Sent into bat, Gujarat reached 209 for 4 courtesy of their skipper Shubman Gill’s 50-ball-84 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

But it proved too small a total as Suryavanshi struck at a rate of 265.79 to blast the secind quickest ton after former West Indies batter Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors in April 2013.

Rajasthan chased down their 210-run target in 15.5 overs as Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 70 off 40 balls.

It was Rajasthan’s highest successful run chase against Gujarat.

Teenager comes of age

Left handed Suryavanshi also became the youngest batter to hit a century in men’s T20 cricket and is also the fastest Indian centurion in premier domestic T20 competition.

Through his 35-ball ton, he bettered Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball ton mark for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians in 2010.

Earlier in IPL 2025, Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya smashed a 39-ball hundred against Chennai Super Kings. Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma clubbed a 40-ball ton against Punjab.

With the win, Rajasthan improved to six points from 10 points to be eighth in the standings and kept their slim chances of advancing to the play-offs alive while Gujarat were placed at the third spot with 12 points from nine games.

“His hitting was tremendous,” Gujarat skipper Gill said after the match.

“Incredible, one of the best innings that I have seen. I just told him to keep going,” Jaiswal, who himself tonked nine boundaries and two sixes, said.

Brief scores:

Gujarat Titans: 209/4 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan 39, Shubman Gill 84, Jos Buttler 50 not out; Maheesh Theekshana 2/35) lost to Rajasthan Royals 212/2 in 15.5 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 70 not out, Vaibhav Suryavanshi 101, Riyan Parag 32 not out; Rashid Khan 1/24) by 8 wickets.
