New Delhi: After a long delay due to Hurricane Beryl, Team India is finally set to return home in the early hours of Thursday (July 3). The T20 World Cup-winning team was stranded in Barbados since lifting the trophy on Saturday after defeating South Africa by seven runs.
After multiple delays, the Men in Blue finally boarded a special Air India Boeing 777 charter flight on Wednesday (IST) and are now expected to land in New Delhi on Thursday morning.
Rohit Sharma’s men scripted history by clinching the T20 World Cup title undefeated. The Asian giants remained unbeaten in the eight matches they played in the United States and the West Indies. The victorious campaign ended India’s 13-year-long World Cup drought and 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.
The landmark tournament also marked the end of an era. Following the historic title, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja all quit T20 Internationals, signing off with the title.
After arriving in the capital, Team India will meet PM Narendra Modi at his residence before leaving for Mumbai for an open bus victory parade.
