Renowned royal author Angela Levin has publicly criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to visit Colombia later this year, questioning the rationale behind their trip given recent security concerns raised by the Duke of Sussex. Levin’s remarks come in response to Harry’s statements expressing fears of bringing his family to the UK without state-funded security, citing concerns over potential threats like “knife or acid attacks.”
Levin, speaking on GB News, expressed disbelief at Harry’s stance, particularly in light of the UK Foreign Office’s current travel advisories cautioning against non-essential travel to certain parts of Colombia due to safety risks. “It is dangerous there at the moment,” Levin remarked, highlighting the inconsistency in Harry’s concerns about security.
“It is really ridiculous,” Levin continued, questioning the authenticity of Harry’s security concerns in relation to his planned international visits. She suggested that Harry might be leveraging security issues as an excuse, implying manipulation tactics aimed at obtaining special treatment, contrasting it with the security provided to other senior royals.
“There is a lot of people being taken away and money being demanded for them to be returned. It is really ridiculous and it conforms to my long term suggestion that they tried to manipulate the King. To have three court cases on the Home Office and saying security is why he won’t bring his wife and children when really it’s a nonsense. He would be well looked after with good protection, but not the very top of the tree which is just for Camilla, Charles, William and Catherine,” she said.
Meghan and Harry’s trip to Colombia
Meghan and Harry’s trip to Colombia, scheduled for later this year, comes at the invitation of the country’s vice president, Francia Marquez, known for her work as a lawyer, human rights, and environmental activist.
Marquez expressed enthusiasm about hosting the royal couple, emphasizing their itinerary includes visits to Bogota, Cartagena, and Cali, where they will engage with Colombian leaders and local communities.
This Colombian tour marks the second official international visit for Harry and Meghan this year, following their earlier trip to Nigeria.
