Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir exposed as India’s bowling falter at MCG

New Delhi: Former head coach of Team India Ravi Shastri blasted skipper Rohit Sharma and current head coach Gautam Gambhir for their poor decision-making in the Melbourne Test against Australia. India put up a lacklustre display with their bowling as they leaked 474 runs in the first innings. Shastri was quick to notice the team selection of the visitors and their tactics in the ongoing Boxing Day Test.

Shastri questioned India’s decision to go with two spinners into the game – Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar and complained about them being underbowled. The former India cricketer criticised India’s bowling performance, saying that the Men in Blue ran out of ideas.

“I thought the bowling was pretty ordinary. They ran out of ideas, India. Spin wasn’t used as much as it should have. It took a gap of 40 overs before Jadeja was introduced into the attack. It took a long time for Washington Sundar to bowl his first over. So when you’re playing two spinners, you have to ask the question, why did you play two spinners? What was the need if you don’t trust them?” Shastri said on Star Sports, during the Lunch break.

Sundar in place of Gill?

During the coin toss at the MCG, Rohit named one change for India in their playing XI for the game as Shubman Gill was benched and Washington Sundar was called in his place. Dropping a specialist batter for a second spinner is what makes the pundits question India. India currently plays with six bowling options but it is to be noted that the workload on the three pacers has been no less a bit.

Now that Gill isn’t a part of the XI, the team saw a change in the batting order. Rohit confirmed he will be opening the batting for India, but on Day 2, fell for just three runs, continuing his woeful form. KL Rahul was demoted to no. 3 despite his brilliant performance in the series so far but even he couldn’t hit the right notes in the first essay of the MCG Test, departing on 24(42).

Ravi Shastri raised his voice against Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir for their poor decision making as India’s bowling attack put up a mediocre performance in the ongoing Boxing Day Test.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
