New Delhi: India skipper Rohit Sharma is preparing for the Border-Gavaskar series in right earnest, burning calories in the gym.
In a video posted by his media team on his official Instagram channel Team Ro, the star could be seen lifting weights, cycling, and running.
India has landed in Australia for a much-anticipated five match Test series. India and Australia are both in contention to qualify for the World Test Championship.
However, Rohit hasn’t travelled with the team yet and could reportedly skip the first match for the birth of his second child. The first Test begins in Perth on November 22.
In case he missed the Perth Test, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team, head coach Gautam Gambhir has confirmed.
But that hasn’t stopped Rohit from working out in the gym in order to stay sharp. “Best start to the day,” a caption accompanied the picture.
Rohit Sharma is under pressure after his side crashed to a 0-3 whitewash at home, their first series loss after 12 years. Apart from the loss his own form with the bat has been underwhelming.
In five Tests on home soil against Bangladesh and New Zealand prior to the Australia series, the opener has managed only 133 runs in 10 innings, at an average of 13.30.
His best score during this period has been 52, with his other scores being 6, 5, 23, 8, 2, 0, 8, 18, and 11.
Rohit didn’t fare much better in 2023 either, scoring 588 runs in 21 innings of 11 Tests, at an average of 29.40.
He hit two hundreds centuries and two fifties with a top score of 131 in this phase while in the ongoing 2023-25 cycle of the WTC, the right hander has amassed 833 runs in 14 Tests, averaging 33.32, with three tons and four half centuries, with a top score of 131.
