Rohit Shetty draws parallels between Hardik Pandya’s last one-year journey and cinema

New Delhi: Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya turned the tables across the globe, converting all the jeers into cheers and established himself as one of the most sought after Indian cricketers in June this year. He helped Team India lift the T20 World Cup 2024 with his all-round performance throughout the marquee event that took place in the USA and the Caribbean. The noise of his regained success breached the cricket barriers and reached the cinema world as well.

Noted Bollywood director Rohit Shetty, who is known for his massy films, was quick enough to pick up Pandya’s journey and drew parallels between his last one-year journey and cinema. In a YouTube podcast show with Ranveer Allahbadia on the TRS, he was asked about his thoughts on the flamboyant Indian cricketer and Rohit could just talk of his downfall and rise in the last one year phase.

“He was booed, he was trolled, and then came a time when we won the (T20) World Cup. And then when Hardik’s name came up, everyone was cheering, it’s like a cinema. That (last) one year has been a film for him. Like a character who rises, then falls and falls in such a way that 10-20K people are booing him in the stadium. And them in the same stadium when he comes back, people are cheering for him and he’s crying. That’s cinema,” Rohit Shetty said.

Why booing Pandya?

Pandya, who was booed throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians (MI), didn’t have a very great time on the ground whenever he led the team on the field. There was constant hooting against him and fans with some vicious placards could be spotted in the stands. Even the social media wasn’t kind to Pandya, who was part of a huge transfer from Gujarat Titans (GT) to his old franchise Mumbai ahead of the IPL 2024 auction last year.

Rohit Shetty recently talked about Hardik Pandya’s rise and fall in cricket in the last one year, reflecting on his journey and terming it as “cinema”.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
