New Delhi: In a bid to encourage budding athletes and reward the current ones for their impressive show in the recently concluded National Games 2025, the Odisha government has announced cash rewards for all medal winners from the state. The 38th National Games recently concluded in Uttarakhand where athletes from across the nation showcased their skills in multiple sporting events.

Athletes from Odisha also performed well in multiple sporting disciplines and helped the state clinch 46 medals at the National Games 2025. Odisha won a total of 14 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals at the Games which ended on Friday, January 14. The state bagged the 12th position in the National Games 2025 medals tally.

To reward the athletes who delivered medals for the state at the National Games 2025, the Odisha government announced cash rewards for all the medal winners. Odisha government will reward Rs 6 lakh each to athletes who won gold medals while the silver medallists will be awarded Rs 4 lakh each. A cash prize of Rs 3 lakh has been announced for those who won bronze medals at the National Games 2025.

“This year, Odisha has made a mark in national games, securing a place among the top 15 states. Winning 46 medals, including 14 gold, is a significant achievement. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the athletes,” said Odisha Sports minister Suryabanshi Suraj while announcing the cash rewards.

Odisha athletes who shone at the National Games 2025

Rising sprinter Animesh Kujur was one of the stand-out athletes from Odisha at the National Games 2025. Kujur won as many as 3 gold medals in sprint events, including 100m where he equalled the Games’ record with a timing of 10.28 seconds. He matched the record set by Assam’s Amlan Borgohain in the 2022 edition.

Gymnasts Rakesh Patra and Pranati Nayak also shone at the National Games 2025 for Odisha. While Patra won two gold medals, Nayak clinched 1 gold, 1 silver and two bronze medals in gymnastics. Cyclist Swasti Singh also emerged as one of the most successful athletes for Odisha with a total of 5 medals, including 1 gold and two silver medals.
