New Delhi: Ruben Amorim was left disappointed calling his side Manchester United the “worst team” in the club’s history after the Red Devils lost 3-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion. At the Old Trafford, Man United were unable to produce a shot on target as the Seagulls dominated for most part of the game.
The loss gives Amorim his fourth Premier League loss at home since taking over from Erik ten Hag. Talking about the performance, United’s boss felt that while the team could succeed they needed to “survive” the phase where their performance has been below par. Amorim felt that the team had accepted that this team was certainly one of the worst that had played at Old Trafford.

Coming on the back of a draw against Liverpool and a win against Arsenal, Amorim had noted that he would be able to judge his players better on the basis of their performance against Southampton and Brighton. Against Southampton, United took a final-minute victory but were beaten by Brighton in the most convincing manner. Since being appointed, Amorim has lost seven of the 15 games across competitions and has won just three games in the Premier League.
They ended their weekend at 13th, ten points above the relegation zone though, Amorim had previously said that even that was possible. The Portuguese manager was of the opinion that the team was underperforming and this was something they needed to accept. Amorim felt that his side was at the moment letting their supporters and staff down with their performance and that it was “unacceptable” for any Premier League side to lose so many games.
Amorim was questioned if established players were finding it hard to play in his system to which the 39-year-old noted that while the players may be used to different styles, at the moment, the Red Devils were at the moment lacked confidence. The only way to regain their confidence would of course be to win games consistently.
Marcus Rashford hasn’t been available to the team for a long while with the Portuguese manager previously explaining his absence was for “training reasons.” When inquired about the English forward’s absence, Amorim responded that it was his choice to be out of the team. Further Amorim felt that he wasn’t going to include a player he wasn’t confident in.
In the game, Yankuba Minteh had scored early for Brighton only for Bruno Fernandes to cancel the lead with a penalty strike but Kaoru Mitoma and Geroginio Rutter’s second-half strikes ensured that the Seagulls went with all three points from the game.
How can Ruben Amorim turn around Manchester United?
Amorim has confided that his opponents were much better than United at the moment and their inconsistency was only costing them more. He further noted that at the moment he wasn’t helping his players. Amorim has come under fire for his usage of 3-4-3 formation which had brought him a lot of success in his previous club, the Sporting Lison.
Amorim though has said that he won’t be changing his formation despite the pressure he is under. The Portuguese manager though admits that he always knew that this was going to be a tough assignment. He is yet to win three consecutive games since taking over the side.
There are many reasons that the Premier League have slid down the table. The team is unable to perform in run-throughs, is punished on set pieces and failed to keep clean sheets on 12 occasions. It is now really on individuals as Amorim said for the side to fix themselves.
Following Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim felt the team could succeed but currently they lack confidence. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
