New Delhi: Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has signed a deal with Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the latter half of the season. He will play both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup. The 28-year-old will become the first-ever player from Maharashtra to feature in county cricket.
Yorkshire CCC stated on Tuesday, “The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the overseas signing of Gaikwad.” The Chennai Super Kings skipper will be available for the final five games of the Division One campaign starting from 22 July, and the One-Day Cup in August.

The right-handed batter also expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country, and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire.”
Yorkshire head coach, Anthony McGrath, also hailed Gaikwad: “I’m extremely pleased to see Ruturaj sign with us for the second half of the season. He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play.”
Gaikwad has played six One-Day Internationals and 23 T20s for India. This season, he was able to play just five games for CSK as he picked up an elbow injury. He was recently named in the India A squad for the warm-up matches against England Lions, but he didn’t feature in either.
The Maharashtra Ranji Trophy captain now has a golden opportunity to leave a mark in the championship with Yorkshire-a club for which the great Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar once played.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will debut for Yorkshire in vital County Championship clash at Scarborough this July. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
