Jansen removed Sanju Samson for a duck in the first over but Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma batted brilliantly and forged a 107-run partnership for the second wicket. Keshav Maharaj removed Abhishek on 50 runs and Simelane dismissed Suryakumar Yadav in 1 run.
But Tilak continued his explosive hitting and stitched crucial partnerships with Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh. Tilak smashed his maiden T20I hundred with a boundary. Simelane and Maharaj took two wickets each for South Africa while Jansen also took one wicket.
Chasing the 220-run target, South Africa lost both openers in the powerplay. Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Markram on 29 runs while Axar Patel removed Stubbs on 12 runs. Klaasen batted brilliantly and stitched a crucial 58-run partnership with David Miller. Arshdeep Singh removed Klaasen on 41 runs. Jansen smacked 26 runs off the penultimate to keep South Africa alive in the match but Arshdeep bowled a brilliant last over to seal the game for Team India.
