Sachin to Dhoni: Indians with highest individual scores in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

New Delhi: India and Australia, the two powerhouses of world cricket are set to lock horns in a blockbuster five-match Test series in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The series will get underway on Friday, November 22 with the first Test to be played at the Perth Stadium in Perth. The focus is on the Indian batting line-up ahead of the start of the much-anticipated series.

With skipper Rohit Sharma likely to miss the first Test and Shubman Gill out injured, the onus will be on the likes of Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul to shoulder the majority of the run-scoring responsibilities and help India weather the storm. Having not done well in Tests this year, Kohli will be hopeful of sparking a turnaround in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Kohli’s form will be the key if India are to fancy their chances of winning a third straight Test series in Australia. The senior India batter has a terrific record on Australian soil having notched up 1352 runs in 13 Tests at an average of over 54, including 54 centuries. However, Kohli is yet to score his maiden double ton in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and will be looking to achieve the feat in the upcoming series.

VVS Laxman holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with his brilliant 281-run knock which came in the Kolkata Test between India and Australia in 2001. He is followed by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in the 2nd spot on the elite list with his 241 not out in the Sydney Test in 2004.

Highest individual scores for India in Border-Gavaskar Trophy:

1) VVS Laxman – 281

2) Sachin Tendulkar – 241*

3) Rahul Dravid – 233

4) MS Dhoni – 224

5) Gautam Gambhir – 206

Sachin Tendulkar only Indian with a Test double ton in Australia

Seven Indian batters have scored a double century in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy over the years. However, only Tendulkar has scored a double ton in Australia. All other Indian batters have smashed double centuries at home against the Aussies. Sachin’s unbeaten 241 in the Sydney Test in 2004 is often regarded as one of the best knocks of the Master Blaster’s Test career.

It was a legendary knock from Tendulkar where he batted 436 balls and resisted the temptation of playing cover drives and going after anything juicy outside the off stump as he made the Australian bowlers toil hard for his wicket. It was a knock that is remembered for Sachin’s resolute mindset and mental conditioning.

Ahead of the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, here is a look at the Indian batters with the highest individual scores in the tournament.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
