Mumbai: Markets regulator SEBI issued a consultation paper to discuss the norms governing the operation of the brokerage sector. The watchdog has invited responses from industry participants. The consultation paper sought input on brokers’ qualifications under rule 8 of the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Rules, 1957.
Rule 8 bars brokers from taking part in non-securities businesses related to personal financial liabilities, ET NOW reported, citing the paper. The consultation paper seeks to shed light on businesses that are permitted to brokers. This is expected to ensure stock market integrity. The deadline for submission of comments on the consultation paper to the finance ministry is October 10, 2024.
