New Delhi: A statement has been issued by the Vistara Airline, assuring an alternative aircraft for all its Mumbai-Frankfurt flight passengers who are currently in Turkey. The Vistara flight made an emergency landing in Turkey following a bomb threat; the threat has turned out to be hoax and all security checks have been completed.
Bomb Threat for Mumbai-Frankfurt Flight Turns Out To Be Hoax
Following a bomb threat, a Frankfurt-bound Vistara flight from Mumbai was diverted and made an emergency landing in Turkey’s Erzurum airport on Friday. A passenger found a tissue paper in the Lavatory of the Mumbai-Frankfurt flight with a message “Bomb on Airplane” after which the passenger informed the cabin crew and subsequently the captain of the plane was informed. The security checks are all completed and fortunately, the bomb threat is nothing but a hoax.
‘Sending Alternative Aircraft’: Vistara Issues Statement
In a statement, Vistara has confirmed that the security checks have been completed and that the bomb threat was a hoax. The airline has also assured that an alternative aircraft is being sent for the passengers in Turkey.
The statement by Vistara reads, “All the necessary checks have been conducted and the customers, along with the crew and aircraft, have been cleared by the security agencies. Since the crew have exceeded their duty time limitation, we are sending an alternate aircraft, with a fresh set of crew, to Erzurum Airport, Turkey, which is expected to arrive there by 1225 hrs (local time) and depart for Frankfurt, with all customers, by 1430hrs (local time).In the meantime, all efforts are being made to minimize inconvenience to customers, including offering them refreshments and meals. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to them due to this unforeseen situation. As always, the safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft is of utmost importance to Vistara.”
Takeoff-Landing was Briefly Suspended at Turkey’s Erzurum Airport
Since the Frankfurt-bound flight made an emergency landing in Turkey, takeoffs and landings at the Erzurum Airport were temporarily suspended. Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya issued a statement regarding the same. The minister said, “Today, a piece of paper saying ‘there is a bomb on the plane’ was found in the toilet of the passenger plane VTI027 belonging to Vistara Airlines, which was flying from Mumbai to Frankfurt, and upon this notification, the plane made an emergency landing at our Erzurum Airport at around 16:30.”
He further said, “234 passengers and 13 crew members disembarked the aircraft without any problems. Search operations inside the aircraft continue with two bomb disposal experts and one search dog. Necessary measures were taken at the airport by AFAD, Fire, Health, Security, UMKE and DHMI Teams. Due to emergencies, landings and takeoffs are not allowed at Erzurum Airport until 21:00.”
