Serie A title drama: Inter and Napoli’s season-defining games date confirmed

New Delhi: Inter Milan and Napoli’s title-defining match has been moved to Saturday night as both teams will play simultaneously, chasing the Scudetto. The Italian league announced the change on Monday, as there is a chance that both teams can finish on equal points, and if something like that happens, then they will play a playoff for the title on May 26. In addition to that, Inter will also take on PSG in the Champions League final on May 31.

With just a single point between them, the Serie A title race is set to go down to the wire on May 24. Napoli will host Cagliari in Naples, while Inter face an away trip to Como. Both sides missed the chance to pull ahead last Sunday, as Napoli were held to a goalless draw by Parma and Inter played out a 2-2 thriller, settling for a point as well.

The remaining fixtures of the weekend will decide the European spots and relegation from the league. Napoli are currently leading the standings with 79 points, while Inter trails by just one point. All matches between the two sides this season have ended in 1-1 draws, which means a decider will be required if they finish level on points.

Missing managers on the sideline…

The Serie A season is set to end in dramatic fashion, with five managers suspended for the final matchday. Title contenders’ head coaches, Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi, will have to watch from the stands as their teams battle it out for the title. Conte was sent off in the final minute of Napoli’s 0-0 draw at Parma after angrily confronting the opposition bench. Parma coach Cristian Chivu was also dismissed for his reaction but did not receive a match ban.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi and Lazio coach Marco Baroni were both shown red cards just two minutes before the end of Inter’s 2-2 draw for dissent. AC Milan’s Sergio Conceicao has also been handed a one-match ban. With Napoli just a point ahead of Inter, both title-chasing managers will be absent from the dugout for a potentially decisive round.

Five Serie A managers including Conte and Inzaghi are suspended for the season finale, adding drama to the title and European race deciders.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
