Shakib Al Hasan T20I retirement: Records the magician earned in the shortest format

New Delhi: On the eve of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh, star player Shakib Al Hasan dropped a bombshell as he announced his retirement from the T20Is with immediate effect. Additionally, the veteran Bangladesh all-rounder also said that he will bid adieu to Test cricket after the two-match series against South Africa in October.

The participation of Shakib in the Proteas Test series is subject to security clearance as he was recently named in a FIR in Dhaka involving an alleged murder during the recent protests and violence in the country. If he gets to participate in the Test series against Proteas at home, then his farewell will be due in the month of October and if he is not allowed, the Kanpur Test against Indian would be his last game in whites.

Meanwhile, as the veteran Bangladesh player called it it quits from the shortest format of cricket, we take a look at his achievements in T20Is.

Shakib’s achievements in T20Is

Shakib Al Hasan has played 129 matches in the shortest format and amassed 2551 runs with an average of 23.
The Bangladesh player has smashed 258 boundaries and 53 maximums in his T20 career.
Considered one of the greats in T20Is, Shakib has smashed 13 half-centuries but failed to score a century.
He is the only cricketer in this format with more than 2500 runs and 149 wickets. Shakib has also claimed 2 fifers in T20Is.
In June 2024, the Bangladesh veteran became the sixth Asian batter to complete 2500 runs in T20I format.
Shakib has smashed a highest score of 84 in T20Is and ends his career with an impressive strike rate of 121.18.

While the veteran batter has called it quits from the shortest format of the game, he will still continue playing the franchise cricket.
