New Delhi: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat received a grand welcome at the Delhi Airport on Saturday, August 17. She got emotional and thanked the entire country for the support during the Paris Olympics 2024.
Vinesh extended her stay in Paris due to her appeal for the joint silver medal which was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). She was disqualified from the women’s 50 Kg gold medal match after she weighed 100 grams more than the permissible limit.
Despite failing to win the medal Vinesh received a rousing welcome from her fans, family and friends at the airport. She was welcomed by the Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia at the airport. Both wrestlers welcomed Vinesh with a hug as she broke down in tears.
Congress MP Deepender Hooda and boxer Vijender Singh were also present at the airport. Sakshi Malik said that what Vinesh has done for the country she should get more respect and appreciation.
“What Vinesh has done for the country, very few people do it. She deserves more respect and appreciation. I just hope she gets more and more respect” Sakshi said.

Bajrang Punia and Satyawart Kadian also welcomed Vinesh at the Airport
Wrestler Bajrang Punia also said that countrymen giving her tremendous love and everyone can see how the country welcomed her.
“The countrymen are giving her tremendous love, you can see how the country welcomed her” Bajrang Punia said.

Wrestler Satyawart Kadian also said that Vinesh is a fighter and she is a champion. He also said that we are treating her as a gold medalist.
“Vinesh was, is and will remain a fighter. She is a champion for us and we are leaving no stone unturned to welcome her like a champion. We are treating her as a gold medalist. She used to compete in the 53 kg category, why did she compete in the 50 kg category. This a big question as to what was the reason she shifted to the 50 Kg category…”
