‘She even blamed PM’: Yogeshwar Dutt launches brutal attack on Vinesh Phogat

New Delhi: Vinesh Phogat came oh-so-close to scripting history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, missing out on a confirmed silver and a potential gold medal. After being found overweight by 100 gms on the morning of the gold medal bout, Vinesh was disqualified from the event. The development came as a shock to the nation and soon after her appeal at the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) was rejected, the blaming game began.

Vinesh has pointed fingers at the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and its president PT Usha for the Paris fiasco. She also blamed the sports body and its president for doing politics in the French capital.

The Haryana wrestler, along with Bajrang Punia, recently entered politics by joining Congress and the Paris disaster is being used as a major issue in Haryana ahead of the State Assembly elections. Vinesh will contest the elections from the Julana constituency.

Vinesh’s allegations were later rubbished by top lawyer Harish Salve, who represented the IOA during the wrestler’s hearing at the CAS.

Vinesh’s move to politics drew plenty of flack from the wrestling community and Yogeshwar Dutt, 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist, is the latest to slam the wrestler.

Yogeshwar Dutt slams Vinesh Phogat for Olympic disqualification stance

In a recent interaction at a show ‘Panchayat AajTak Haryana 2024′, Dutt tore apart Vinesh and questioned her stance on the disqualification, which he said was the “right call”.

Yogeshwar slammed Vinesh for dragging Primer Minister Narendra Modi’s name in the matter. He also said that Vinesh should have apologised in front of the entire nation for the Paris blunder.

“She was disqualified from the Olympic Games, she should have apologised in front of the entire nation, saying that she made mistakes. But instead, she termed it a conspiracy, even blaming the Prime Minister of the country. Everyone knows that the disqualification was the right call. They disqualify athletes even if the weight is more by a gram,” said Yogeshwar.

Yogeshwar also commented on the wrestlers’ protests staged in New Delhi last year and slammed Vinesh for creating the wrong atmosphere in the country.
