‘Should Not Make Mistake of…’: US Warns Iran to Not Hit Back Post Israeli Revenge Strikes

New Delhi: A day after Israeli airstrikes pounded Iran, attacking its “military targets” and leaving four soldiers dead, the United States on Sunday, October 27, warned Tehran against making the “mistake of responding” to the bombardment.

Taking to X, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III wrote, “I spoke with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant today to discuss the Israel Defense Forces’ overnight precision strikes on military targets in Iran. I reaffirmed the United States’ ironclad commitment to Israel’s security and support for Israel’s right to defend itself.”

Reiterating unwavering commitment to defend Israel, Lloyd J. Austin III said the US will support the Jewish state’s right in defending itself.

‘Iran Should Not Make the Mistake of Responding…’

“I emphasized that the United States is well postured to defend U.S. forces and facilities across the region and made clear that Iran should not make the mistake of responding to Israel’s strikes, which should mark the end of this exchange,” he added.

Austin also called for peace in the region by engaging dialogue and diplomacy. He urged all parties involved in the Middle East crisis to step forward towards de-escalating the conflict with hostage release & ceasefire deals in Gaza and by offering a safe enviroment for return of civilains to their homes on Israel-Lebanon border.

“I also underscored the opportunities that exist for to use diplomacy to dial down tensions in the region, including with a hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza and an agreement that allows civilians on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border to return safely to their homes,” he further wrote.

Tensions Sore in West Asia

The tensions in the West Asia continued to sore on Saturday, October 26, with Israel launching operation ‘Days of Repentance’ to retaliate a massive missile barrage on the Jewish state on October 1. Later in the day, the IDF announced the conclusion of the airstrikes on social media platform X.

“I can now confirm that we have concluded the Israeli response to Iran’s attacks against Israel. We conducted targeted and precise strikes on military targets in Iran — thwarting immediate threats to the State of Israel,” said IDF Spokesperson RAdm. Daniel Hagari on a video message posted on X.

Meanwhile, Iran’s military said early Saturday that Israeli assault on the country targeted military bases in Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran provinces, causing “limited damage.”

The statement from Iran’s armed forces was read aloud on state television, which showed no images of the damage described. Iran’s military claimed its air defences limited the damage done by the strikes, without providing additional evidence.

The recent Israeli attack on Iran comes weeks after Tehran launched a massive missile barrage on the Jewish state October 1, most of which were shot down by Israeli air defenses with the help of US forces. That attack was in retaliation to a series of Israeli attacks against Iran’s Lebanese proxy Hezbollah, killing its leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike and then sending troops across the border into southern Lebanon. Israel has also battered Lebanon with aerial strikes which it says are aimed at dismantling Hezbollah, but which have claimed thousands of lives.
